Eik Banki

Eik Banki P / F ( " Eik Bank AG " ) or short Eik ( Faroese for " oak tree" ) is the oldest and largest bank in the Faroe Islands.

It was founded on August 24, 1832 as a savings bank under the Danish name Færø Office Spare checkout. 1963-2006 it was called Føroya Sparikassi ( " Savings Bank of the Faroe Islands "). The Danish subsidiary Eik Bank Danmark A / S, short Eik.dk heard since 29 May 2007 on the 15 largest banks in Denmark.

History

Founded as the Faroese Savings Bank by the Danish governor of the Faroe Fritz Tillisch the first financial institution in the islands. In 1831 he wrote a letter to the law firm in Copenhagen, with a request to be allowed to set up a savings bank. Since the postal service was very poor at that time, the reply came only in the summer of 1832 in which the firm agreed to the project. Maybe it benefited Tillisch that the head of the firm, his uncle on his mother's.

The Savings Bank of the Faroe Islands should be for 74 years the only bank in the Faroe Islands until 1906 Føroya Banki was founded. The first few years was the savings bank housed in the governor's office and later in the National Library of the Faroe Islands.

In January 1905, the Savings Bank got its own building in the heart of Tórshavn in the Sverrisgøta. The stone building then cost 20978.59 crowns.

Finally, in 1956 opened a branch in Vestmanna, 1969 in Runavík, 1970 in Gøta, skali, Fuglafjørður, Strendur, Miðvágur and Sørvágur, 1971 in Kollafjørður, Eiði, Skopun, Sandur, Skálavík, Tvøroyri and Hvalba, 1973 in Norðskáli, 1980 in Húsavík, 1981 two more stores in Tórshavn in 2006 and finally in Klaksvík. The latter was in competition with Norðoya Sparikassi, the savings bank on the northern islands of the Faroes.

In 1965 the subsidiary P / F was founded in electron, that should take care of the EDP of the Bank.

On 19 December 2006, the Savings Bank of the Faroe Islands was renamed Eik. The oak was there in 1957 the logo of the Savings Bank ( as of all savings banks in the Kingdom of Denmark), but the name " Føroya Sparikassi " was said to be too complicated for international traffic. So we named the bank after its logo, the oak.

Expansion to Denmark

In January 2001 opened the representation of Kaupthing Bank in Copenhagen. 75 % of them were in Kaupthing itself, and 25 % of the then Føroya Sparikassi. On 1 January 2005, Kaupthing subsidiary was acquired 100 % of Føroya Sparikassi and received the Danish name Eik Bank Danmark A / S. Since May 2005, the Bank has its seat in the Nørre Farimagsgade 15

On 29 May 2007, announced that Eik has the largest Danish internet bank Skandiabanken bought by the Swedish multi Skandia. This Eik was at a stroke one of the largest banks in Denmark and got there for the first time in the business with private customers.

On 11 July 2007, the IPO took place in Reykjavik and Copenhagen.
