Eila Hiltunen

Eila Hiltunen ( born November 22, 1922 in Sortavala; † 10 October 2003 in Helsinki) was a Finnish sculptor.

Her best-known work of art is the Sibelius Monument in Helsinki. A smaller pilot study for this sculpture stands on the site of the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Hiltunens modern and blunt manner of sculpture at first little attention in Finland's art scene. As a pioneer of modern sculpture in Finland and abroad, she has been recognized only in recent years. In 2001, she was awarded the prestigious Finlandia Art Prize. In the same year an internationally acclaimed retrospective exhibition of her works of art found in Didrichsen Art Museum held in Helsinki, whose patron was the Finnish President Tarja Halonen.
