Eilmer of Malmesbury
Eilmer of Malmesbury was an English Benedictine monk from the 11th century, who made a glide of 200 m length. According to the report of his monk brother of the historian William of Malmesbury (approx. 1080-1143 ), Eilmer jumped with attached arms and legs wings of a tower, but broke upon landing at both legs, which he attributed to the lack of a rear wing.
The event is dated in the decade from 1000 to 1010 by the U.S. technology historian Lynn Townsend White, based on information of William and evaluated as authentic.
