EinStein würfelt nicht!

EinStein does not play dice! is the official game accompanying a traveling exhibition on Einstein Year "God does not play dice: Science in the game - game in Science", which starts in July 2005 in Göttingen, and then to go on tour in Germany. It was designed by Jena mathematics professor Ingo Althöfer.

The name of the game has a double meaning:

  • Firstly, it must in the game no more dice, who only has a stone. (see rules )
  • Secondly, it refers to the now famous statement of Albert Einstein that " the old man " (meaning God ) does not play dice. Einstein rejected the stochastic explanations of quantum mechanics. This rejection but did not sit by and just " Einstein does not play dice ."

Regulate

The 2 -player game is played on a square board with 5 × 5 squares. Each player has six numbered stones that are placed as shown in the figure on the board. Within these limits, it is up to the players how they arrange the stones.

The players roll now alternately. The stone with the number that was rolled, must be drawn around a field. You may not suspend. The red player can be either the stone down, right, or diagonally to the right to move down, the blue player one up, left, or diagonally up - left. Both own and opponent's stones can be beaten if they are on the target field.

If a player has no more the stone with the number rolled, he may choose the next higher or the next lower stone. So he can decide between two stones. If he only has a stone, he does not need to roll the dice.

The winner is the player who moved a private stone on the opposite corner square or all opponent's checkers suggests.

There are variations of the game for 3 and 4 players. These are played on game boards with 6 × 6 squares. In the 4-player version ( EinStein does not play dice Quattro ) each form two players a team. A team wins if one of the players has reached its opposite corner square. A team has lost when one of the players has lost all his stones. Happened both simultaneously ( corner square achieved and partners eliminated ), so that counts as a victory of the team. There are two different variants of the seat assembly: In one, the players of a team are sitting diagonally opposite, on the other (long line ), they sit side by side. In the 3- player version, a player wants to achieve its opposite corner square, while the two opponents as a team try to stop him. The enemy team has no other goal than the destruction of the individual player.

Strategy

The fewer pieces you have, the " movable" are these, as they can be addressed through more rolls of the dice. Therefore, it may be useful specifically to beat your own stones to make more likely the best train can.
