Eipbach

The Eipbach in the middle reaches

The Eipbach is a 10.1 km long, orographic left tributary of the victory. By Eipbachtal performs a portion of the L 86

The mostly located in the municipality Eitorf, 23.782 km ² large catchment area covers Kircheib (Rhein- land -Palatinate ), the villages of Eitorfer Switzerland and the following villages in Eiptal:

  • Obereip, Kapellenort since 1735
  • Schell mountain
  • Obereiper mill
  • Mühleip
  • Live
  • Scheidbach
  • Mierscheid
  • Castle Welterode
  • And Eitorf.

The latter gets its name from the Eipbach and was formerly called Eypdorf. The name comes from Eip Ap and is of Celtic origin. It stands for flowing water.

The largest tributary is the springs from the Leuscheid Wohmbach.

The original opening of the Eipbach in the victory lay east of the bridge road.

In the upper reaches of the Eipbaches at Mühleip and Obereiper mill there are two retention basins and the Place du Bouchain a third, all of which were built due to the catastrophic floods of 1970, when the whole village was under water.

On Eipbach there is a rich fauna. Woodpeckers, kingfishers, dippers, wagtails and gray wagtails and black storks are native here, as are the yellow-bellied toad is found.
