Eitan Ben Eliyahu

Eitan Ben Eliyahu ( born 1944 in Jerusalem, Hebrew איתן בן - אליהו ) is a former Major General ( Aluf ) of the Israel Defense Forces and was from 1996 to 2000 commander of the Israeli Air Force (IAF ).

Life

Elijah 's father was born in Khorramshahr in Iran and emigrated in 1922 in the British Mandate of Palestine, where Eliyahu Eitan was born in 1944. He studied at Bar- Ilan University and achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and business administration. He earned further a Masters in Strategy and International Relations at Tel Aviv University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University.

During the 1973 Yom Kippur War Eliyahu shot down two Egyptian fighter pilot and led a squadron of F-4 Phantom II fighters; In 1981, he flew fighter escort during Operation Opera, which led to the destruction of the Iraqi nuclear reactor at Osirak. Elahiju served as commander of an F -15 squadron, as commander of a military base, as Head of Operational Requirements Division, and was appointed chief of the use of IAF in 1987. On 1 July 1996 he was promoted to commander there. During his tenure, Elijah focused on the extent of the operation ranges for the IAF, especially in regard to Iran. In this sense, Elijah ordered 25 F- 15I fighter, which have a longer range than the previously acquired from Israel F -15 fighters. Elahiju abdicated from his position as commander of the IAF on 4 April 2000.
