Eksjö

Eksjö is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Jönköping County, the historical province of Småland. Eksjö is the chief town of the same name.

Eksjö itself already received in 1403, the city rights and was since the end of the 15th century garrison town. Today is the garrison with 600 employees the third largest public employer after the hospital with 1,700 and the municipality with 1,200 employees.

Eksjö is known for its unique wooden house architecture. The old town still corresponds to the medieval city plan and is consistent with the historic wooden houses almost completely protected monument. 1997 Eksjö was awarded the Europa Nostra Diploma for the preservation of the old town.

Worth seeing is the church of Eksjö with organ and the Eksjö Museum.

Twinning

Cities partnerships with Neusaess, since 2001 with Schneverdingen and since 1996 with Barlinek in Poland since 1995. The Danish partner city is Ærøskøbing.
