El Bagre is a municipality in the Colombian region of Bajo Cauca, Antioquia with 46 020 inhabitants (2005 ).

Data

The site has an area of ​​1563 km ². Established in 1675 became the place non Fernando Alcantara. 1980 was elevated to the community. The city is located 150 meters above the sea level.

Location

The city is located about 170 km southeast of Monteria and 200 km west of Cucuta. After Medellin in the southwest there are 250 kilometers and the capital Bogota is located 350 km south.

Economy

The economy is based on mining of gold and silver, animal husbandry, and the rice and timber cultivation. The name is derived from occurring there Tiger Spatelwels (el Bagre ) derived.
