El Comercio (Peru)

El Comercio (Spanish for "Trade " ) is a Peruvian daily newspaper based in Lima.

The Comercio is one of the oldest Spanish-language newspapers and the oldest still published daily newspaper in Peru; that was first published on 4 May 1839. Since 1875, the newspaper owned by the Miro Quesada family. During the military dictatorship of General Velasco in the 1970s, the family was expropriated, on 28 July 1980 were the original owners of the newspaper but back again.

The newspaper followed a bourgeois- conservative, but independent line, they defended, for example, the work of the Commission for Truth and Reconciliation against attacks from the government and army. She is a member of the Grupo de Diarios América.

El Comercio belongs to Empresa Editorial El Comercio SA, which publishes the newspaper " Trome ", " Peru21 ", and the business newspaper " Gestión ".
