El-Khokha

El Chocha is an ancient Egyptian necropolis in Western Thebes east of Deir el- Bahari. The place was mainly used as a burial ground for officers of the First Intermediate Period and the New Kingdom.

The necropolis consists of a small hill and a southern valley that the grave districts Al- Sheikh Abd el- Asasif and Qurna separates. It is located on an access road to Qurna and near the Aufwege to the dead temples of Deir el- Bahari. To the south, not far away, there is a mortuary temple of Tuthmosis III. ( Hat Henket -ankh - Men cheper -Re - " The temple ( called ) Building of the life of man cheper - Re ( Thutmose III .")).

Stock

The terrain is characterized by a particularly high density grave. It contains the oldest Theban rock tombs. Four decorated tombs date of senior officials from the late Old Kingdom and the First Intermediate Period. Most grave sites were built during the New Kingdom, especially in the 18th Dynasty and the Ramesside Period. In addition, there are many unexplored and undecorated tombs, some of them from the Middle Kingdom.
