El Médano

El Medano ( The sand dune Spanish ) is a village in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, on the Canary island of Tenerife, one of the Spanish province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It has 7,478 inhabitants (as of 2011). The place is located a few kilometers east of the airport Tenerife South in a small bay on the southeast coast. To the south, La Montaña Roja rises ( "Red Mountain" ), the eroded remnant of an old cinder cone, which is a nature reserve. From the top of this survey, El Medano and a part of the environment can overlook.

Because of the strong, sustained winds of El Medano is a popular holiday destination for windsurfers. At three spots, the water sports enthusiasts will find training conditions for all skill levels. Also kite surfing determines the image on the beach and in the water from wind force four.

Other nearby attractions include a cave with shrine. The place is reminiscent of those born in Vilaflor far only Central American saint Hermano Pedro ( 1626-1667 ). He spent some time in the cave at El Medano.
