El Nayar

The municipality of El Nayar is the largest area of 20 municipalities that make up the Mexican state of Nayarit. It is located in the east of the state and extends far into the mountains. The seat of the municipality is the town of Jesús María.

Geography

The municipality of El Nayar in Nayarit is located in the east of the Sierra Madre Occidental. It covers an area of ​​5254.31 km ², making it the largest municipality in the state. Your boundaries touch in the southeast the town of La Yesca, in the south the municipality of Santa María del Oro, in the southwest of the municipality of Tepic, in the west, the municipalities Rosamorada, Ruiz and Santiago Ixcuintla and to the northwest the municipality Acaponeta. Demography

Ethnicities

El Nayar is the ancestral homeland of two main ethnic groups of Mexico, the Huichol and Cora, who live in the mountains, which made them a long time independence.
