El Porvenir is the capital of the Panamanian comarca ( autonomous region ) Guna Yala and only has about ten inhabitants. The name is Spanish and means " future". In the Kuna language means the place Gaigirgordup.
El Porvenir is located on a namesake island of San Blas Islands ( Gaigirgordup in the Kuna language) and is the administrative headquarters of Kuna Yala. It has an airfield, a small hotel and some, inhabited by a few families building. Flights between Panama City and El Porvenir operate weekly. El Porvenir is a starting point for visits to the territory of the Kuna.
