At- Taib (Arabic التيب at- Taib, Egyptian Arabic it- TEB, also known as El Teb or Hillet Ateib ) is an oasis in the Sudanese state of Al- Bahr al - ahmar.

Location

It is located in the Sudanese state of Al- Bahr al Red Sea, some 650 kilometers northeast of Khartoum, south of Sawakin and about 15 kilometers south of the small coastal Trinkitat on the Red Sea en route to Tokar.

History

On February 4, 1884, the General of the Mahdi Osman Digna here could beat the Anglo- Egyptian army of Baker Pasha and including the forts of Tokar and Sinkat. Therefore, the British sent 5,000 men under Gerald Graham to recover the important Red Sea coast. Graham Osman Digna was again hit with at- Taib on 29 February and reached on March 3, Tokar. Despite the victory by Graham in at- Taib and two weeks later at Tamai, the British had to withdraw to the position Sawakin and endure there during the ten -year-old Mahdi 's rule.
