Elacatinus

Hainasengrundel ( Elacatinus evelynae )

The gobies of the genus Elacatinus live in the coral reefs of the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and on the Pacific coast of Central America. These are slender, small, usually only three to four centimeters long fish.

Part of the 28 species, including the Hainasengrundel (E. evelynae ), the Neongrundel (E. oceanops ) and E. genius, E. illecebrosus, E. and E. prochilos randalli are also called Putzergrundeln and take in their habitat, the ecological role of Putzerlippfische from the Indo-Pacific that are missing in the Caribbean. Clean bigger fish to so-called cleaning stations, similar in drawing the Putzerlippfischen and feed exclusively from the parasitic small crustaceans that they eat their "customers" of the skin.

Another part of the species, including E. chancei, E. Horsti, E. louisae, E. and E. Tenox xanthiprora lives in tube sponges and feed mainly on the small bristle worm Syllis spongicola, the parasite populated than the sponges.
