Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias )
The Plattenkiemer ( Elasmobranchii ) are a subclass of cartilaginous fish ( Chondrichthyes ) dar. Today only belong to them Neoselachii (modern sharks and rays) with over 930 extant species. There are also a number of extinct taxa, such as Cladoselache, Stethacanthus and the " freshwater sharks" ( Xenacanthiformes ).
The Elasmobranchii different from their sister group, the chimaeras ( Holocephali ) through five to seven gill slits without operculum and the racks where the teeth are permanently replaced.
