Elastica theory

The elastic theory of Leonhard Euler is a theory of solid mechanics to calculate highly elastic deformations of structures. Euler ( 1744) and Jakob Bernoulli developed the theory for elastic line (lines) and studied their bending. Certain situations can be accurately calculated with elliptic functions. Later (1907 ), the elastic theory of the straight generalized by E. F. and Cosserat to a geometrical theory inherent direction for each point.

The elastic theory is an example of the bifurcation (mathematics), which at the same time for most boundary conditions, there are various solutions.
