Elba Ramalho

Elba Ramalho ( born August 17, 1951 in Conceição, Paraíba ) is a Brazilian singer and songwriter, who had occasionally worked as an actress. Their music combines elements of forró, the traditional music from the Northeast of Brazil, with ballads, rock music, samba and North American blues. Four times she has already won the Latin Grammy.

Biography

Growing up in northeastern Brazil, she has been inspired early by her father to the music. In 1968, she began to play drums and joined the all-female band Ace Basas. In 1974 she moved to Rio de Janeiro, where she was involved in musicals. Her first movie role she got in 1976 in the drama Trem Fantasma and in the following years, she held supporting roles in the films Morte e Vida Severina (1977) and República dos Assasinos (1979); between them they occupied a role in the Chico Buarque initiated by piece A ópera do malandro (1978). Her rendition of " O meu amor" with Marieta Severo brought her a first record deal with the CBS.
