Elbingerode, Lower Saxony
Elbingerode am Harz is a municipality in the district of Osterode am Harz in Lower Saxony. It belongs to the Samtgemeinde Hattorf am Harz, which has its headquarters in the town of Hattorf am Harz.

Geographical Location
Elbingerode each is slightly southwest of the Upper Harz and Harz Nature Park, on the Oder- inflow Sieber. It is located near the national road 243 that leads from Seesen to Nordhausen and State Road 27, which leads from Göttingen to Blankenburg. In addition, the county road 7 forms a northwest bypass.
History

Old names of the place are 1206 Alvelingerot 1209 Elvelingerod, 1258 Elvelingerode; Elvelingeroth, 1311, Elvelingerode 1319 Eluelingerode 1330 Elvelingherode 1341 Elbelingerode, 1343 Eluelingerode, 1427 Elbingerode and from 1500 Elvelingerod. The place name has been formed with the educational element " inge -rode ". The original meaning of the settlement name can be approximately described as a " clearing of the people of the sea ". This type of place names has been popular in the area around the resin. Elbingerode Wernigerode in the district is likely to be as Elbingerode be understood in the Kreis Osterode / Harz as a " clearing point of the clan of Athalwin ".
