Eldar Shengelaia

Eldar Schengelaia (Georgian ელდარ შენგელაია; * January 26, 1933 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian film producer and politician ( National Movement - Democrats ). From 1995 to 2004 he was Vice President of the Parliament of Georgia.

Life

The son of Nikoloz Schengelaia graduated in 1958 the Faculty of film production of cinematographic Institute Moscow. From 1957 to 1960 he worked for the Mosfilm Studios. There, his first film, a fairytale by Wilhelm Hauff, Legenda o ledjanom serdze (Eng. The Tale of the cold heart) was born.

In 1960 he transferred as a producer of the film studios Kartuli to Tbilisi. He made a name for himself in 1973 with the feature film Scherekilebi (English nerds ). It was about comic codgers, their seemingly unattainable ideas and dreams. The films Tetri karavani (Eng. In 2003, he joined the United Democrats Zurab Zhvania to, supported the Rose Revolution in Georgia in November and coined the term popularized internationally. He now belongs to the National Movement - Democrats, whose leader President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Schengelaia produced many movies, several of which have been awarded to Soviet and international film festivals.

Schengelaia is married and has three daughters: Natalia, Katerina, and Helena. The director Giorgi Schengelaia is his brother.
