Eleanor de' Medici

Eleonora de ' Medici ( Eleonora Maria de Frans Francesco de' Medici, born February 28, 1567 Florence, † September 9, 1611 in Cavriana ) was a daughter of Francesco I, Duke of Tuscany, and the Archduchess Johanna of Austria. She was a family member of the House of Medici. It was by marriage Duchess of Mantua as the second wife of Vincenzo I Gonzaga.

Life

Eleonora was born in Florence on February 28, 1567 as the eldest daughter of eight children. Your baptism took place in the same year.

It was initially assumed Eleonora would Henry III. , Duke of Anjou, son of Henry II of France and Catherine de 'Medici married. In 1570, it was feared, Eleonora had smallpox, but that was not the case, they only had a fever, from which she recovered. Her parents and grandfather Cosimo sent her vial of holy water, as she recovered from her illness.

In 1574, when Eleonora was seven years old, died in her grandfather Cosimo, and so her father Grand Duke of Florence was. In 1578, when Eleonora was eleven, her mother died, and her father later married Bianca Cappello.

Family

Eleonora had seven younger siblings. One of her sisters, Maria de ' Medici, was Queen of France and was the mother of Louis XIII. Eleonora had a sister, Anna, who died at the age of 14 years. The rest of Eleonora's siblings died in childhood.

On April 29, 1584 married Eleonora Vincenzo I Gonzaga, with whom she had six children:
