Life

Eleanor was the fifth daughter of Henry Plantagenet, 3rd Earl of Lancaster ( 1281-1345 ) and his wife Maud Chaworth ( 1282-1322 ), a half-sister of Hugh le Despenser. She was a granddaughter of Edmund Crouchback, 1st Earl of Lancaster, and his second wife Princess Blanche of Artois.

On November 6, 1330 married Eleanor Plantagenet in London John de Beaumont, 2nd Lord Beaumont († 1342 ), eldest son of Henry Beaumont, 3rd Baron Beaumont, 4th Earl of Buchan ( 1288-1340 ) and his wife Alice Comyn ( 1291-1349 ). Her husband died during a tournament on April 14, 1342 From the marriage two children were born. :

  • Henry (c. 1340-1369 )
  • Mathilda († 1467 ).

On February 5, 1344 Lady Eleanor 's second marriage was her cousin ( third degree ) Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel ( 1313-1376 ). The marriage produced five children:

  • John (1349-1379) ∞ 1358 Lady Eleanor Maltravers
  • Thomas (1345-1414), Archbishop of Canterbury and of York
