Eleanor of Prussia

Eleanor of Prussia ( born August 21, 1583 Königsberg, † April 9, 1607 in Coelln ) was a princess of the Duchy of Prussia and by marriage Electress of Brandenburg.

Life

Eleanor was the fourth daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia (1553-1618) from his marriage to Marie Eleonore (1550-1608), daughter of Duke William the Rich of Jülich- Cleves -Berg. The princess grew up with her sisters on the Königsberg Castle.

On November 2, 1603, she became the second wife of the Elector Joachim Frederick of Brandenburg ( 1546-1608 ) in Berlin. The marriage took place for political reasons. On one hand, hoped Joachim Friedrich, thereby enhancing its influence in the Duchy of Prussia, where he acted as regent for Eleanor mentally ill father; On the other hand, he hoped to Eleanor maternal inheritance. As Eleanor Steward John of Löben was ordered.

The Princess died before the age of 24 shortly after the birth of her only child in the puerperium. Eleanor's body was buried on 26 April 1607 the Hohenzollern crypt in Berlin Cathedral.
