In contrast to his 1976 debut released Land of the Midnight Sun is on this album a departure determine towards more melodic arrangements away from pure speed game; therefore, it is also regarded as his best album. Furthermore, influences of Latin Jazz, Flamenco and Rock stated: The pieces are very rich in contrast, by inspired on Brazilian music and the flamenco acoustic pieces for Di Meola alone (Lady of Rome, Sister of Brazil) or in a duo with guitarist Paco de Andalucía ( Mediterranean Sundance ) to technically extremely sophisticated jazz-rock ( Race with Devil on Spanish Highway) and rocky heights (Flight Over Rio with a " devilish sound duel " with Jan hammer Moog synthesizer ).
