Elementary reaction

A reaction unit is a single chemical, not divisible in a step reaction mechanism, i.e., the elementary reactions are chronologically successive partial reactions that make up the overall reaction. The molecularity is the number of reactant particles and this is not the same as the order of reaction, an empirical size.

The term " elementary reaction " should not be confused with a " reaction of chemical elements."
