Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro

Eleuterio Fernández Huidobro (called " Nato ", born March 14, 1942 in Montevideo) is a Uruguayan politician.

Fernández Huidobro completed his education at the Colegio y Liceo Santa María and the IAVA. From 1959 to December 1966, he was then working for Banco Popular. He was one of the founding members of the National Liberation Movement - Tupamaros MLN. On October 8, 1969 he was arrested and imprisoned in Pando in the subsequent period. In September 1971, 110 prisoners he managed to escape from the prison of Punta Carretas. On April 14, 1972 he was arrested again and severely injured. In September 1973, he was declared with eight inmates, including Mauricio Rosencof, José Mujica and Raúl Sendic hostage to the civil-military dictatorship, taken away from the prison of Libertad and was under complete isolation in prison. This prison conditions were relaxed to national and international pressure in May 1984 and there was a movement back to the prison in Libertad. He finally was released by the Ley de Pacificación Nacional on 14 March 1985.

Fernández Huidobro, the only party Frente Amplio belonging, had in the 44th legislative period, for a total of four days held a position as deputy senator in the Cámara de Senadores. In the 45th (for the Partido Encuentro Progresista / Frente Amplio ) and 46th legislature ( for Encuentro Progresista / Frente Amplio / Nueva mayoria ) he then took from the February 15, 2000 a true Titularmandat as a senator. Occasionally it was between 2005 and 2009 Vice- President of Uruguay. In 2007 he founded the intra-party sector Corriente de Acción y Pensamiento - Libertad (CAP- L). In May 2011, he resigned as senator. Since July 13, 2011 according to other sources since July 26, 2011, Fernández Huidobro is in the government of President José Mujica defense minister of Uruguay.

Beyond politics Fernández Huidobro works as a writer. As such, he wrote several books. This includes, among other things, awarded the Premio Bartolomé Hidalgo " Memorias del Calabozo ". He also wrote " La Fuga de Punta Carretas ," for which the price of the city of Montevideo, he was awarded.
