Élie Barnavi

Elie Barnavi (* 1946 in Bucharest ) is an Israeli historian and former ambassador to France.

Barnavi emigrated at the age of 12 years with his parents to Israel. There he studied history and political science at the University of Jerusalem and at the University of Tel Aviv. He then continued his studies at the Sorbonne.

He was professor of modern Western history at the Tel Aviv University and is professor emeritus. Barnavi is a member of Shalom Achschaw and the Meretz Jachad, the left - Zionist party in Israel. He was from June 1998 to December 2000 the founding director of the Museum of Europe in Brussels and is now on its scientific advisory board, before he was already the head of the scientific advisory board. From December 2000 to October 2002, he was Israeli ambassador in France.

At the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, he was a visiting professor.

Barnavi could, with whom he is friends convince Jean Frydman ( France member of the Resistance, founder of Europe 1, L' Oréal board member and advisor to Yitzhak Rabin and Ehud Barak ) to write his biography, what Regis Debray and Romain Gary was not previously done.

In September 2010, he was involved in the founding of the Spinelli Group, which campaigns for the European federalism.
