Elisabeth Ludovika of Bavaria

Ludovica Elisabeth, Princess of Bavaria ( born November 13, 1801 in Munich, † December 14, 1873 in Dresden) was a wife of Frederick William IV Queen of Prussia.

Life

Elizabeth was the daughter of King Maximilian I of Bavaria and Queen Caroline, twin sister of Queen Amalie of Saxony ( † November 8, 1877 ), sister of Queen Marie of Saxony ( 1805-1877 ), sister of Ludovica of Bavaria and sister of the Archduchess Sophie of Austria (1805-1872), which Elisabeth both an aunt of Empress Elisabeth ( "Sisi" ) of Austria ( 1837 to 1898 ) and the Emperor Franz Joseph I was. She was also the godmother of "Sisi", which was named after her Elizabeth.

On November 29 1823 she was married to the future King Frederick William IV of Prussia. She shared his intellectual interests, especially his aspirations for art purposes. 1830 stepped over to the Protestant church. Since 1840 Queen of Prussia, she was not without influence on the Prussian policy. They fought for the preservation of the friendship between Prussia and Austria. Elizabeth's marriage to Frederick William IV is described as happy. She nursed him during his long illness.

According to Friedrich Wilhelm's death on January 2, 1861 Elisabeth led to her widow sitting Sanssouci, Charlottenburg and pride rock a retired life. It was involved in charity and nursed the memory of her deceased husband. 1871 was a patron of the " Keppel 's school and educational establishment " for girls in Hilchenbach along the lines of Queen Luise- Stiftung in Berlin- Dahlem. In an audience at Charlottenburg Palace they appointed Nanny of Monbart to the first pin Superior. To her brother, Kaiser Wilhelm I, she had a friendly relationship. She died on December 14, 1873 during a visit to her twin sister, Queen Amalie of Saxony, in Dresden. On December 21, she was buried beside her husband in the Church of Peace in Potsdam.

  • In Aachen, the 1827 was completed, designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel fountain, the Elisenbrunnen, named after the Princess Elisabeth Ludovica of Bavaria.
