Elisabeth of Anhalt-Zerbst

Elisabeth von Anhalt ( born September 15, 1563 Zerbst, † November 8, 1607 in Crossen ) was a princess of Anhalt and by marriage Electress of Brandenburg.

Life

Elizabeth was a daughter of Prince Joachim Ernst von Anhalt (1536-1585) from his first marriage to Agnes (1540-1569), daughter of Count Wolfgang I of Barby.

Elisabeth was born on October 6, 1577 at his hunting lodge Letzlingen the third wife of nearly 40 years her senior Elector Johann Georg of Brandenburg ( 1525-1598 ). It was thus 16 years younger than her stepson Joachim Friedrich. The marriage was celebrated without much effort and Elizabeth received as a wedding gift annually awarded 400 guilders. Elizabeth brought as a dowry of 15,000 crowns in the marriage and got overwritten as jointure, in addition to a considerable pension, town and castle Crossen, office and city Züllichau and Bobersberg.
