Elisabeth of Brandenburg, Duchess of Brzeg-Legnica and Cieszyn

Elisabeth von Brandenburg (* 1403, † October 31, 1449 in Legnica ) was a princess of Brandenburg and by marriage Duchess of Legnica and successively Duchess of Teschen.

Life

Elizabeth was the eldest child of the later Elector Frederick I of Brandenburg (1371-1440) from his marriage to Elizabeth (1383-1442), daughter of Duke Frederick of Bavaria -Landshut. At the time of Elizabeth's birth, her father still Burggraf of Nuremberg. Elizabeth's brothers were Frederick II and Albrecht Achilles, Elector of Brandenburg

Elisabeth was married at the Council of Constance, where her father was raised to the Margrave and Elector of Brandenburg, at the behest of Emperor Sigismund on April 9, 1418 by Duke Ludwig II of Legnica and Brzeg ( 1380/85-1436 ). The Ludwig's relationship with Brandenburg proved very friendly due to the marital union. From this marriage survived only two daughters, which is why Louis 's great-nephew John I, who had married in 1445 Louis and Elizabeth's daughter Hedwig, succeeded as Duke of Legnica and Brzeg.
