Elisabeth of the Palatinate, Landgravine of Hesse
Elizabeth of the Palatinate (* November 16, 1483 in Heidelberg, † June 24, 1522 in Baden- Baden) from the family of Wittelsbach was a Countess Palatine of simmering and succession by marriage Countess of Hesse- Marburg and Margravine of Baden.
Life
Elizabeth was a daughter of the Elector Philipp of the Palatinate (1448-1508) from his marriage to Margaret (1456-1501), daughter of Duke Louis IX. of Bavaria- Landshut.
She married her first husband on February 12, 1496 in Heidelberg Landgraf Wilhelm III. of Hesse- Marburg ( 1471-1500 ). The nuptials took place but not until 1498 in Frankfurt am Main. The marriage band- Wilhelm III. close to the Palatine house, while William Kassel cousins were regarded as partisans of the emperor. In the case of his heritage without death William had almost awarded the Palatinate as jointure and abutment the whole county Katzenelenbogen. After the death of William III. but the country fell with Katzenelenbogen to his cousin William II of Hessen- Kassel, the Elisabeth at the request of the Palatinate party should now married. However, this refused and married a Habsburg princess related. In addition, Wilhelm II was also involved because of disputes over the jointure of Elizabeth to the outlawry of Emperor Maximilian against Elizabeth's father and brother.
Three years after the death of her first husband she married on January 3, 1503 in Heidelberg with Margrave Philip I of Baden ( 1479-1553 ). In a 1508 contract entered into with respect to Elizabeth's dowry was determined that the Palatinate ceded the 1463 acquired by Baden parts of the County of Sponheim back to Baden.
Elizabeth was buried in the collegiate church in Baden -Baden.

From her second marriage to Margrave Philip of Baden Elizabeth had the following children:
