Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue (Alexandria)

The Eliyahu Hanavi Synagogue ( Synagogue of Elijah the prophet, Hebrew: בית הכנסת אליהו הנביא ) is a synagogue in Alexandria in the Nabi Daniel Street. It is the largest synagogue in the Middle East. Instead of an earlier building of 1354 a large new synagogue was built in 1850 in the style of eclecticism. The previous building had been destroyed twice, most recently on the orders of Napoleon Bonaparte.Die designs for the establishment of the Jewish religious building provided the Frenchman Léon BARCILON, engineer and architect.
