Eliyahu Winograd

Eliahu Winograd (Hebrew אליהו וינוגרד; * December 1926 in Tel Aviv, Palestine ) is a former judge of the Israeli Supreme Court and former Vice- President of the District Court of Tel Aviv. He was chairman of several commissions of inquiry, from 17 September 2006 to January 2008, he headed the eponymous Winograd Commission.

Life

Winograd finished school in Jerusalem in 1945 and made ​​1948-1950 his military service. In 1952 he finished his studies at the College of Law and Economics Tel Aviv ( later became a part of the Tel Aviv University ) and received there his lawyer title.

Career

After graduation, he found work as a legal assistant in an office called " Lishor Hahar & Co" and remained there until 1960. During the years 1960-1963 he worked as a paralegal at the District Court of Tel Aviv. He then worked as a freelance lawyer until he was appointed in 1972 a judge of the District Court of Tel Aviv. Later the appointment as Vice- President of the District Court in Tel Aviv followed. Winograd received his doctoral degree in Law in 1983 from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. For one year he served as a judge of the Supreme Court of Israel, before he set in 1996 his work as a judge. Since Winograd works as an arbitrator and mediator, is engaged in municipal law and was chairman of a number of public committees of inquiry.
