Elizabeth Hawley Gasque

Elizabeth Hawley Gasque (* February 26, 1886 in Blythewood, Richland County, South Carolina, † November 2, 1989 in Ridgeway, South Carolina) was an American politician. Between 1938 and 1939, she represented the state of South Carolina in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Elizabeth Gasque was born Elizabeth Hawley to the Rice Creek Plantation near Blythewood. She attended South Carolina coeducational institutions in Edgefield, and then until 1907 the Greenville Female College in Greenville.

She was first married to a man named Van Exem and then with Congressman Allard H. Gasque. After his death she became the nominee of the Democratic Party to its successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There she ended between 13 September 1938 and 3 January 1939, the last legislative period of her husband. However, at this time did not meet the Congress, so that they took part in a session. In the following regular congressional elections Elizabeth Gasque did not run for the U.S. House of Representatives.

In her later years Gasque appeared as a writer and editor. She died on 2 November 1989.
