Elizabeth of Lancaster, Duchess of Exeter

Elizabeth Plantagenet, Duchess of Exeter ( * 1364 or earlier in Burford, Shropshire, † November 24, 1426 ibid ) was the third child of John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster and Blanche of Lancaster, and thus came from the House of Lancaster. She was a sister of King Henry IV.

According to various sources Elizabeth, the second daughter of Blanche and Gaunt, but was born before 21 February 1362/63 in Burford, Shropshire, either in 1364 or. Unlike her older sister Philippa of Lancaster, she was already on June 24, 1380 in Kenilworth Castle with the then only eight years of John Hastings, 3rd Earl of Pembroke married, probably in order to secure the inheritance of the house of Lancaster. The young bride was with this marriage, however, do not agree, so this was canceled in 1383, even before her first husband was old enough to make it. Instead, she fell John Holland, 1st Duke of Exeter, the tournament heroes and half-brother of Richard II, whom she married in Plymouth on 24 June in 1386.
