Elkford

Elkford is a municipality in the southeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia, in the Regional District of East Kootenay.

The granting of local autonomy for the church took place on July 16, 1971 ( incorporated as the Village Municipality ).

Demography

The census in 2011 showed a population of 2,523 inhabitants for the settlement. The population of the settlement has thereby increased since the census of 2006 by 2.4 %, while the population in the province of British Columbia at the same time grew by 7.0%.

Education

The city has at educational institutions at two schools, namely the Rocky Mountain Elementary School and the Elkford Secondary School. They had about 400 students in January 2006.

Economy

The vast majority of the working population is employed in the coal mine, which is operated by Teck Resources. It is located in the Rocky Mountains, specifically in the Kootenay Rockies. This area contains five of the six coal mines of the company that has specialized in exports to East Asia.

Tourism

Near the city is the 17,245 -acre Elk Lakes Provincial Park, a little further away the Peter Lougheed Provincial Park and the Height of the Rockies Provincial Park.
