Ella Gjømle

Ella Gjømle (* May 29, 1979 in Porsgrunn ) is a Norwegian cross-country skier.

In the season 1999/2000 Gjømle participated for the first time in World Cup competitions, but could fight no World Cup points this season. She succeeded only in 2003 in Oberhof on the 10 km classic, which were held as a mass start. A year later, she made ​​a breakthrough in the world's best, as they could clinch third place in the sprint competition in Stockholm. This season she won in Lahti together with Hilde G. Pedersen discharged in classical technique team sprint. The following season she was with Marit Bjørgen also in the team sprint in Bern, Switzerland successfully. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2005 in Oberstdorf they finished ninth in the sprint competition.

Their most successful season was the season 2005/06. So Gjømle won the sprint competition and recorded two more podium finishes in Oberstdorf. At the end of the season, they finished second in the Sprint Appreciation of cross-country skiing World Cup. At the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Pragelato they missed along with Marit Bjørgen just a medal in the team sprint. The duo finished fourth in the classical technique. In the individual sprint was Gjømle sixth.

To kick off the 2006/07 season they won again with Marit Bjørgen the team sprint in Dusseldorf. The following year Gjømle could not participate in this competition, as they had recently suffered from a bacterial infection. The disease caused by chlamydia restricted their training a strong, so Gjømle only could intervene early 2008 in the World Cup events.
