Ella Zeller

Ella Zeller- Constantinescu (* November 26, 1933 in Moldova Nouă ) is a former Romanian table tennis player and functionary. She is four times world champion.

Active

Ella Constantinescu is the daughter of a German-born parents. In the 1950s, she was one of the best players in Romania. At the national championships, she won from 1957 to 1971 five times in a row in singles. In doubles, she won eleven titles, namely from 1953 to 1956 and 1958 with Angelica Adelstein - Rozeanu, 1959-1961 with M.Tompa and 1963-1965 with Maria Alexandru. Seven times they won the Mixed, 1952 with Farkas Paneth, 1956 with Toma Reiter, 1957 and 1958, with Matei Gantner, 1959 and 1961 with Otto Bottner and 1963 with Dorin Giurgica.

Between 1952 and 1967 she played internationally for Romania. Your first gold medal she won at the World Championships in 1953 with the Romanian team. In 1955 she became World Champion in doubles together with Angelica Adelstein - Rozeanu. This track defended the double at the 1956 World Cup, this was gold in the team competition. There are also two silver medals with the team in 1952 and 1963 and five bronze medals in 1956, 1957 and 1963 in singles, 1956 Mixed with Toma Reiter and in 1957 at the Double with Mary Golopenta.

In 1958 she won the European Championship in 1958 in a double with Angelica Adelstein - Rozeanu. There are a further two silver medals in 1958 and 1964 with the team in doubles with Maria Alexandru.

Functionary

After the end of her playing career in 1967 Ella Zeller- Constantinescu worked for 22 years for the Romanian Table Tennis Federation as technical director and coach of the women's national team. In 1988, she assumed the office of the Vice President, European Federation ETTU. This they had to give up in 1992, because with Hans Wilhelm Gäb was a German President and the Vice President shall not come from the same country according ETTU Statute.

In 1989 she moved to Germany. Here she performed until 1993 in the DTTB Secretariat. She was secretary for women's sport and international relations, and director of the Women's League.

Honors

Ella Zeller- Constantinescu since 1992 Honorary Member of the ETTU. In 1995, she was inducted into the ITTF Hall of Fame.
