Ellbogensee

The Ellbogensee is located in the district of Mecklenburg Lake 16 km south of Neustrelitz. It is about 5.5 kilometers long and 500 meters wide and is part of the small lakes in Mecklenburg Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The south-eastern shore forms the border with the state of Brandenburg.

The lake is located on the municipalities of Priepert and the City Wesenberg. At the northern tip, at the transition from the Grand Priepertsee, is the place Priepert and slightly west of the westernmost Seepunktes the Wesenberger district of punishment. The narrow lake has a distinctive Z -shape, of which probably derives its name. It is divided into three basins: North Basin, North-South Basin and southern basin. The deepest part of the lake is located in the North Basin. On the south shore near Großmenow there is a camp.

His inflows received by the lake in the north of the river Havel ( Big Priepertsee ) and to the west by a about 1 kilometer long canal lock of punishment from the Great Pälitzsee and ultimately from the Elde about the Müritz -Havel waterway. The sluice punishment was built in the mid 19th century and has a drop height of 1.45 meters to the east valley. The Havel flows from the southern basin of the lake elbow further to the east in the Ziernsee.

The North Basin of west to Priepert is part of the 32 -kilometer-long federal waterway Müritz- Havel waterway, which opens here with km 0 in the Federal Waterway Upper Havel waterway, which includes the other two basins of the elbow lake. Both federal waterways belong to the waterways of class I for which the Water and Shipping Authority is responsible Eberswalde.
