Ellen Preis

Ellen Mueller- Price, born as Ellen Price ( born May 6, 1912 in Berlin, † November 18, 2007 in Vienna Lainz ) was an Austrian foil fencer and Olympic champion at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Life

The daughter of a Styrian grew up in Berlin, where she was initially active as a track and field athlete. It was not until the age of 18 she began, after the relocation to Vienna with her aunt with the fencing lessons. Even after half a year, she was Austrian Champion and the following year a third party. At the European Championships in Vienna

For participation in the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, the German - Austrian double citizen applied first to the German association for refusing though. So she traveled to the Austrian team in the United States. There, she managed the final victory over Heather Guinness (United Kingdom) winning the gold medal. In Berlin in 1936 and in London in 1948 was able to achieve a third place respectively Müller Prize. Then there were three world champions and numerous national titles. 1956, at age 44, she qualified for the Olympic Games in Melbourne for the final round.

After the end of their active careers Müller- Price was a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and taught at the connected Max -Reinhardt-Seminar and at the Vienna Burgtheater historical fencing and stage fencing. Müller- Price died at the age of 95 years at the hospital in Vienna Lainz renal failure. She was buried at Vienna's Central Cemetery.
