Elliðaey

Elliðaey is an island south of Iceland. With 0.45 km ² it is the third largest of the Westman Islands.

Geography

It lies in the north of the island group and extends to 114 m up above sea level. The island is 4 miles away from the mainland Islands and can be reached only by boat or helicopter.

Trivia

The island is uninhabited, but is on her a large hunting lodge, built in 1953. In 2000, the then Prime Minister of Iceland, Davíð Oddsson proposed to give the island of the singer Björk, to thank her in this way for their contribution to increasing the international reputation Islands.
