Elmar Lampson

Elmar Lampson ( born 1952 in Koblenz ) is a German composer and president of the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, where he teaches as a professor of composition and theory.

Life and work

Lampson studied composition and violin at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover. There followed years as a freelance composer, conductor and Culture Manager: Structure of the Orchestra Academy Hamburg, guest conductor of various German and Eastern European orchestras, concert tours as a composer and conductor by nearly all European countries as well as Russia, Georgia and Kyrgyzstan. There were teaching activities and lecture tours.

He was co-founder of the music seminar in Hamburg and the festival world of hearing - Hamburger encounter in the sign of contemporary music, which was held annually from 1989 to 1998. 1997, the appointment would come as Professor of ensemble line - New Music at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg. In 1998 he was appointed professor of Phenomenology of Music at the University of Witten / Herdecke, where he was from 1998 to 2004 Dean of the Faculty fundamental for the study and today is still the holder of the Chair for Phenomenology of Music.

His published in Peer Musikverlag oeuvre as a composer includes chamber music, solo and ensemble works, orchestral and choral music as well as an opera. On three CDs, his music is published by the Munich col legno. He has published articles and book contributions musikphänomenologischen topics and is co-editor of the book series " Copyrights", which appears in the culture Kadmos, Berlin.

Prof. Elmar Lampson is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of Hamburg.
