Elmar Mäder

Elmar Theodor Mäder ( born July 28, 1963 in Henau, Canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland ) from 2002 to 2008, the 33rd commander of the Swiss Guard.

Life

He grew up in Zuzwil in the company of three brothers and a sister. His parents, Theo and Catherine Mader, there resulted a business for sausage casings and butcher needs. After primary school in Zuzwil, the secondary school in Wil SG, he attended the district school in St. Gallen and then studied at the University of St. Gallen and the University of Fribourg Jurisprudence. In 1990, he graduated with a licentiate in both laws. Subsequently, he was an associate court clerk at the District Court Wil / SG and since 1992 an independent trustee with emphasis Tax, revision and consolidation of financial companies.

Elmar Mäder is married to Theresa Blöchliger. The couple has four children. He is a member of the GM Abbatia Wilensis ( Wil ), the AKV Alemannia (Freiburg), the AV Bodania (St. Gallen ) and the Helvetia Romana in the Swiss Student Association and the KAV Capitolina Rome in CV.

In spring 2009, he joined as head of the Swiss office in Zurich, in the Hamburg Prevent AG. Since summer 2011 he is Managing Director of Medical Vision AG in Thurgau Roggwil.

Military and Swiss Guards

In the Swiss army he held the rank of first lieutenant of the air defense troops. Elmar Mäder joined in 1998 in the service of the Vatican. On 2 June 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed Vice - Commander of the Pontifical Swiss Guard, which he eventually presided as commander from late 2002 to August 2008.

His ties with the Swiss Guard and his commander expressed Pope Benedict XVI. and so from that he baptized the fourth child of Commander Mäder, along with thirteen other children, on January 7, 2007, on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, in the Sistine Chapel.

On 6 March 2008 Mäder announced that he wanted to start something new in Switzerland.
