Elpenbach

Elpenbach is the name of a stream run in Oberhausen in the districts Osterfeld and Sterkrade. Earlier descriptions of the creek were " Sterkrader Bach" or " mill stream ".

Course

Its headwaters is in the range Klosterhardt -Nord. From there, it passes through a green corridor to St. Antony Ironworks, fed there the former cottage pond and then flows in a renatured range up to Elly -Heuss -Knapp Foundation. The further course is piped and joins the main channel Sterkrade Emschergenossenschaft.

Bach History

In the history of St. Antony ironworks of Elpenbach played an important role in the water supply. Between 1752 and 1756 he was the subject of a dispute between the brook downstream monastery Sterkrade and the cabin owners. The nuns of the monastery objected to the hut foundation, because they feared contamination of the creek as well as a risk of flooding by breaking the dam. Early 20th century ( 1925-1955 ) he dined at the Elpenbachstraße (formerly Brook Street ), this pool " Sommerbad Klosterhardt ".
