Elschnitztalbach

The Elschnitztalbach is a creek in the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district Saalfeld- Rudolstadt.

It is created by the community Wittgendorf ( Thuringia) with many small sources and is about four kilometers long. The various sources which lie several kilometers partly apart, about every spring at an altitude of 560 m above sea level After the stream has overcome about 140 meters altitude, it flows below Rohrbach ( in Saalfeld ) in the Sorbitz. In the year 1724/1725 about 20 cartloads useful Eisenstein were in the pit " caution " in the Elschnitz transported per day.
