Elvīra Ozoliņa

Elvira Ozoliņa ( also Russian Эльвира Анатольевна Озолина Elvira Anatoljewna osolina; born October 8, 1939 in Leningrad, now St Petersburg ) is a former Latvian athlete, who took for the Soviet Union. At a height of 1.76 m her competition weight was 67 kg.

At the start of the 1960 season Ozoliņa threw twice world record in the javelin throw with 57.92 meters and 59.55 meters. At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960, it was her role as favorite and won with 55.98 m in front of Dana Zátopková ( 53.78 m) from Czechoslovakia. Your second major title won Ozoliņa at the European Championships 1962 in Belgrade. With 54.93 m, it was well ahead of second-placed Romanian Maria Diaconescu with 52.10. Elvira Ozoliņa is married to the also starting for the Soviet Union, Latvian javelin thrower Jānis Lūsis. Both son Voldemars Lūsis is also javelin thrower and took 2000 and 2004 for Latvia at the Olympics in part. Despite her marriage, she joined throughout their careers to under her birth name.
