Emad Burnat

Emad Burnat is a Palestinian film director, cinematographer and film producer who has been nominated for an Oscar in 2013.

Life and career

Emad Burnat began as a cameraman in the documentary Keywords Guy Davidi. The following year, he works with Davidi of 5 Broken Cameras the documentary film as a producer, director, and was responsible for the camera. For this film, the two were awarded the prize for the best documentary film at the Jerusalem Film Festival. He was alone at the Sundance Film Festival Directing Award in the category of World Cinema - Documentary. Furthermore, the film at the Academy Awards in 2013 for Best Documentary was nominated. This is the first nomination for a Palestinian.

Upon entry into the United States, following an incident in which Burnat from Turkey flew to Los Angeles and had directly to an interrogation room at the passport control. Emad Burnat is married and has four sons.
