Emanuel Nobel

Emanuel Nobel ( born June 23, 1859 in Saint Petersburg, † May 31, 1932 in Sweden ) was a Swedish- Russian oil magnate. He was the eldest son of Ludvig Nobel, brother of Alfred Nobel and grandson Immanuel Nobel. His brother was Carl Nobel.

The Nobel family was one of the richest in Europe and the world. Emanuel Nobel took over the management of Europe's largest oil company Branobel based in Baku after the death of his father, 1888. Much like he Emanuel was a very progressive entrepreneur and decided to build the first pipeline in Russia and the world's first oil tanker and the first railway cisterns.

In 1898, he signed a license agreement with Rudolf Diesel and created the world's first diesel engine plants in St. Petersburg, where diesel engines for its oil tankers ( Vandal ) were prepared. He led his group until he was forced to leave Russia in the summer of 1918. He was a dominant figure in the global oil industry of his time. In the years 1891-1918 he was a member of the Board of the Russian State Bank. After fleeing from Russia, he retired from business life.

He contributed significantly to the fact that the will of his uncle Alfred Nobel implemented and the Nobel Foundation was founded.

Emanuel Nobel was a great art lover, but the bulk of his collection was left behind in Russia destroyed during the Winter War in 1940.

He was never married.
