Emidio Taliani

Emidio Taliani ( born April 19, 1838 in Monte Gallo, Ascoli Piceno Province; † August 24, 1907 ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Emidio Taliani came at a young age to Rome, where he theology but also studied law at the university La Sapienza. Was rounded off his academic training with both the Doctor of Laws in civil rights issues but also with a doctorate, which concerned the Canon Law.

After his ordination, on 20 October 1861 Taliani private secretary to Cardinal Carlo Sacconi and to the rank of monsignor was charged. It was also Sacconi, who Taliani on May 16, 1869 sent to his personal adviser to the Apostolic Nunciature in Munich, where Taliani was only a year later, in 1870, promoted to business support. After four years in Bavaria Taliani moved as Secretary to Cardinal Sacconi to the Nunciature in Paris, where he worked 1875-1879.

The beginning of 1880 came Taliani in the service of the Curia and was on 17 March of the same year prelates at the signature, the Supreme Court of the Vatican City, is determined. Another five years later, on 16 March 1885, he was Apostolic prothonotary. He was last in 1889 Vicar of the Lateran Basilica under Cardinal Francesco Satolli.

On June 22, 1896 Taliani was of Pope Leo XIII. appointed Titular Archbishop of Sebastea. The consecration of a bishop took place on June 29, 1896, performed by Cardinal Lucido Maria Parocchi instead. Only a month later, on July 24, 1896 Taliani was determined Apostolic Nuncio to Austria - Hungary, a post which he held until 1903.

In his last consistory, only about a month before his death, Pope Leo XIII. on June 22, 1903 Taliani to the College of Cardinals. The participation of Taliani in the next conclave, in which it was Pope Pius X, chosen, was not entirely uncontroversial, since Taliani was only on paper cardinal, but had not yet received the biretta or the Cardinal's ring. These insignia of the cardinal article were him only as the six other clergymen who Leo XIII. had determined before his death, presented on November 12, 1903 by Pius X.. At the same time, the new cardinal priest was equipped with the titular church of San Bernardo alle Terme.

Emidio Taliani Cardinal died on August 24, 1907, at the age of 69 years. He was buried in the family grave in the cemetery of Ascoli Piceno.
