Emil Otto Grundmann

Emil Otto Grundmann (* 1844 in Meissen, † August 27, 1890 in Dresden ) was a German painter.

He studied with Hendrik Leys at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and Dusseldorf. Then he emigrated to the United States, where he became a renowned painter. On the recommendation of his friend Francis Davis Millet Antwerp he got the job as the first director of the Art School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where he worked with Joseph DeCamp.

Many artists attended his courses and were influenced by his European views. They include, among others, Edmund Charles Tarbell, Edward Clark Potter, Robert Reid, Ernest Fenollosa, Frank Weston Benson and Charles Henry Turner.
